Oxo Alcohol (Solvents)
BASF PETRONAS Chemicals is one of the leading producers of oxygenated Solvents, namely butanols, in the Asia Pacific region. Our production site for butanols is located in Kuantan, Malaysia. The other solvents (eg. Butyglycols) are imported from BASF production sites elsewhere throughout the world, with the bulk of it coming from BASF SE in Germany. Butanols are mainly used as raw materials for Plasticizers, Acrylates and Acetates, which are in turn raw materials for plastics, wood coatings, paints and lacquer
Normal-butanol (n-bol)
Normal-butanol is normally used as a solvent and as feedstock for syntheses. Its main application is to serve as a solvent in coating industries. It has the advantage of preventing blushing when drying over humid conditions and thus is widely used as a diluent in cellulose nitrate lacquers with the capability to improve flow, gloss and resistance.
Iso butanol (i-bol)
Iso butanol is normally used as a solvent and as feedstock for syntheses. Its main application is to serve as a solvent in coating industries. It has the advantage of preventing blushing when drying over humid conditions and thus it is widely used as diluent in cellulose nitrate lacquers with the capability to improve flow, gloss and resistance.
2 Ethylhexanol(2EH)
2EH primarily being used as feedstock for down stream applications such like di-2-ethyl hexyl phthalate (DEHP), or other plasticizer and also 2-Ethylhexyl acrylate. In these end use areas, it contributes significantly to many high performance characteristics such as flexibility, good adhesion, lower emissions and fuel performance improvement. Also serve as solvent, it is widely used in coating and adhesive industries.
Market Applications & Industries
Primarily serving as a solvent, it is widely used in various applications such as solvent for printing inks, extractant in the production of drugs, additive in polishers and cleaners and solubilizer in the textile industry. It also acts as a dehydrating agent (entrainer in azeotropic distillation).
