Welcome to BASF PETRONAS Chemicals’ Kuantan Verbund Site In Brief Report 2009
This is the first publication of BASF PETRONAS Chemicals' Kuantan Verbund Site – in Brief Report 2009. As a joint-venture of two US Fortune 500 companies, BASF and PETRONAS, which are both committed to Sustainable Development, we will be publishing this report annually. This is the inaugural edition, covering the time frame from 2005 to 2009.
For our shareholder BASF, sustainable development means integrating environmental protection and social responsibility in business processes so that they contribute to long-term economic success. The sustainability strategy has the goal of avoiding risks, promoting our existing business and creating new business opportunities.
In line with the commitment to continuous growth and sustainable development for the future, our shareholder PETRONAS works in the best possible way to balance and integrate economic, environmental and social considerations into their business decisions. These considerations include, among others, strong Health, Safety and Environment management and performance, continuous development of the workforce and the long-term and holistic contribution to society.

The data in this report reflect the total operations at the "Verbund" site in Gebeng, Kuantan which consists of BASF PETRONAS Chemicals Sdn Bhd (60% owned by BASF SE and 40% by PETRONAS), as well as Toray BASF PBT Resins Sdn Bhd (a 50-50 joint venture between BASF SE and Toray).
