BASF PETRONAS Chemicals wins HR Development Award

BASF PETRONAS Chemicals won the Human Resource Development Award (for large-size employers in the manufacturing sector) at the recently concluded PSMB 2007 Conference in Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre for its efforts in human resource development (HRD). Puan Suhaila Abdullah, Director of the HRM Division and Jason Choi, Senior HRD Manager, received the award from Datuk Dr Thomas George, Secretary General of the Ministry of Human Resources. This annual Pembangunan Sumber Manusia Berhad (PSMB or Human Resource Development) Conference is attended by 1,200 participants from all over Malaysia.

The HRD award was conferred annually since 1998 to recognise employers who played an effective role in developing their workforce. The awards are divided into small and large-size employers in the manufacturing and service sectors. In 2004, BASF PETRONAS Chemicals also won a certificate of appreciation.

The criteria used in determining the winners are their HR Development policies, training plans, implementation of training plans, training equipment and facilities available, and their mechanism for evaluating training and social obligations as corporate citizens. Some other aspects taken into consideration were the management's commitment towards training and education and the impact of training on the company's business plans.

BASF PETRONAS Chemicals joins the ranks of other multinationals such as Philips Semiconductors, Texas Instruments, Western Digital, Motorola Malaysia and ST Microeletronics who have won the award in the past.
